Chinese New Year of the Water Rabbit 2023: A year of optimism

Optimism and newfound hope will herald the Chinese New Year and the year of the Water Rabbit on January 22, 2023.

What does the Rabbit symbolise for Chinese New Year?

In Chinese culture, the Rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity. People born in the year of the Rabbit are vigilant, witty, quick-minded, ingenious, gentle, amicable and able to adjust their plans and actions no matter what obstacles present themselves.

What are the other Chinese zodiac animals and how do they interact with the Rabbit?

The Rabbit is the fourth animal sign in the Chinese zodiac. The 12 zodiac animals are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each year has an animal sign according to a 12-year cycle. The most compatible zodiac signs for Rabbits are Goats, Dogs, and Pigs.

The year of the Water Rabbit only occurs every 60 years

Other recent Rabbit years are 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951, 1939, and 1927, but the year of the Water Rabbit only comes in 60-year cycles. This is because the Chinese believe each of the 12 zodiac signs is associated with one of five elements: Gold (Metal), Wood, Water, Fire, or Earth.

This means there are four other types of Rabbit, each with different characteristics:

  • Wood Rabbit: said to be clever, quick-witted, selfish, lively in appearance, but shrewd at heart
  • Fire Rabbit: broad-minded, smart, and flexible, with unique views
  • Earth Rabbit: frank, straightforward, ambitious, hard-working, but rather reserved
  • Gold Rabbit: kind-hearted, conservative, lively and enthusiastic

Crystals that bring Water Rabbits good luck

Blue Agate is a crystal that has strong connections with water and will have extra healing and protective powers for all Water Rabbits.

Agate gets its name from the Achates River in Sicily where it was discovered between 400 and 300BC. It was almost immediately revered for its great healing powers.

Blue agate jewellery is a particularly effective way of harnessing the crystal's power as it allows you to wear the jewellery close to the body. Its powers are also said to increase if presented as a gift by a loved one

It’s not just in the Chinese zodiac that people can enjoy good fortune with a little blue agate jewellery in their lives. Read our blog to find out why blue agate is good for the star signs of Aquarius and Pisces in Western Astrology.
